Thinking PINK at the Race for the Cure

It was a cool, windy, gray morning. At 6:30 am, the sun couldn’t be seen as the clouds filled the sky. But what could be seen were the PINK waves of people … survivors and supporters … emerging, gathering, unifying, and celebrating. Celebrating each other, celebrating the moment, celebrating the cause, celebrating survivorship, celebrating life; even celebrating those lives who lost their battle. The weather didn’t hold us back from joining together at yet another Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure event at Six Flags Hurricane Harbor. Sisterhood and Brotherhood, family and friends, were “one” in the pink fight.

Spending a pink day with my pink sisters and my very supportive sister, absolutely priceless! It’s a day to always embrace.

This year’s event was different. The Survivors Procession took place before the “race”.  Procession/Celebration activities included a live performance by Kristina LaChaga, which was indeed quite special.

We were then sent off to the start line of the 5K, with no time to spare.

The race wasn’t actually a race, but the run continued. We ran and walked through part of the safari … it was fun to see the primates simply doing their thing, but seemed unaffected by our presence. The course continued through the amusement park along side of rides that were soon being readied for the crowds. We continued along the parking area to the finish that led us back to the Hurricane Harbor parking area and were then channeled into the EXPO Sponsor area.  The “I Am The Cure” Team of Volunteers cheered everyone on at various stations throughout the course. The PINK spirt was alive and well!

Although the morning felt very rushed and some of us didn’t have time to sit and truly take in all the offerings the event held for all, it was still something to enjoy participating in. We are a voice. A Pink Voice!

Pink” events are reminders … October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Breast Cancer doesn’t discriminate. Men can get breast cancer too. Listen to your body and be proactive. It could make a world of difference.  Schedule your Mammogram today, if you haven’t done so already.
